Real human rights are more than just virtue signals

Gillian Triggs has accused the Australian Government of being “ideologically opposed to human rights”, adding that the nation was “regressing” on human rights on every front including refugees during her five-year reign as head of the Human Rights Commission.

And she is of course, correct – provided you define human rights as the right to give people smugglers a chance to drown you and your children, or the right to displace genuine refugees.

On her final day in the $417,800-a-year job Triggs told Radio National Breakfast’s Fran Kelly: “I think they (human rights) have regressed. Or course I would rather not be observing that.”
